Manchester-based producer Andy Stott brings electronic music into some dark places with his new album: It Should Be Us

Last week, British producer, Andy Stott released a new EP called It Should Be Us. Calling it an EP is a bit of a misnomer however, as the album includes 9 tracks (8 on the vinyl). It’s more like a full-length release.

Recorded last summer, this album is undoubtedly representative of Stott’s dark interpretation of electronic music but it also exudes something elemental. There’s a type of moody energy coming out of each track. The tripped-out, lo-fi rhythms coupled with rugged synths are paired with bare-boned melodies making it perfect for the dance floor.

It’s as if Stott recorded a normal techno album and then slowed it down and played it in reverse. The result is a sort of dubbed-out electronic album.

Check out my favorite track from the album below. If you like what you hear, pick up a copy of It Should Be Us off of Modern Love records.
