Scorchio! All Points East 2019 Brings The UK Summer Heat
And is if by clockwork, here comes the sun in the UK. Feel the heat, boys, festivals are back on the menu!
Yup, along with an influx of tourists just chomping at the bit to see Mud Island in all its grimy-blighty glory, the barely-United Kingdom will now enjoy more sunlit upland festivals than you can shake a glowstick at. And it’s about time too – this Brexshite omnishambles needs an pause button, standard-like.
One of the better ones this year is All Points East 2019.
Hosted in Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets, the festival spans two weekends, with a litany of activity in the week sandwiched in-between.
Stages include the Jägermeister Jägerhaus, the Firestone Stage and the Ray-Ban Studios X stage. And of course, the traditional festival waiting-in-line-at-the-portaloos stage, a firm fan favourite.
And look, it’s clear from the setlist, all tastes are catered for. In fact, it’s a veritable audio buffet. Have a peek at the setlist below:
Big headliners include The Chemical Brothers, Primal Scream, The Strokes, The Raconteurs, Christine and The Queens, James Blake, Run The Jewels, Bring Me The Horizon, Mumford & Sons, Bon Iver and Mac DeMarco. Phew. Where do you start?
And then, if you still need more after that mouthful, there’s In The Neighbourhood – a week of free activities and attendance at Victoria Park. There you’ll find food vans, craft beer, an outdoor cinema, live music and lots more. It’s also sure to be filled with tourists and the funemployed because the rest of us have to work. So enjoy the sunburn, you layabouts!
We at TNLF will be in attendance at All Points East 2019 to bring the show to you in whichever medium survives the madness that is sure to follow. But be sure to check us out on here and on our snapbookchattygrams to get realtime updates.
Who are we looking forward to seeing? Probably the sun-tan lotion shop. But in all seriousness, Danny Brown and his totally off-the-wall style is rap-elite that requires attendance toot suite. Little Simz will probably play some of her instant-classic Grey Area live, and we heavily recommend seeing her belt it out. Petite Noir is a South African singer making ‘Noirwaves’, and is rising out of the underground – probably a good idea to check him out.
Otherwise, Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett for some dreamy folk-rock and then jump around to some Dizzee Rascal. All he does is flex – and he doesn’t even need a reason, apparently.
There’s a cracking competition you might want to stick your oar in. What’s on offer: an Albert Hammond Jr. Signature and signed Fender Stratocaster, 4 VIP tickets and a backstage tour.
One final thing. Not a lot of people know, but there’s lots of different ways to get involved with the festival community and volunteer your time to do good. My Cause UK donates to a charity while you help out (and see some shows on the side). Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong at all.
There’s so much more to say but in the end, life begins out there and not online. It seems all signs really do point east this summer. So put on your best white vest, feel the warm beer on your shoulders, the sun your neck and let the festival frivolities begin!
