Fitz and The Tantrums

Fitz and The Tantrums is an “indie-soul” band that’s been buzzing for a few years now. The band was founded by Michael Fitzpatrick in 2008 somewhere in LA. The story goes that Fitz got a call from his ex-girlfriend saying ‘My neighbor is moving out in a hurry and has to sell everything, and he has this organ …” Fitz bought the electronic organ, got inspired that same night and wrote the song “Breakin’ the Chains of Love”. He hit up his friend, saxophonist James King, who in turn got in touch with singer Noelle Scaggs and drummer John Wicks. Wicks grabbed bassist Ethan Phillips and keyboardist Jeremy Ruzumna and according to Fitzpatrick, the band was formed … just like that. I’m not sure if anything in life is THAT easy but either way, some kind of magic came together and the result was Fitz and The Tantrums. You can get a free 5 song EP from one of their live set here. Check out the track that inspired it all below. I also added a little remix of “Moneygrabber” that I found on Soundcloud.

The bands first album “Pickin Up The Pieces” was released August 24, 2010 on Dangerbird Records. They’ve since been touring in support of the album, blowing crowds away with their live shows. They’ve been playing with bands like Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds which you should also check out … Fitz and The Tantrums have been working on a new album, due out very, very soon. Watch for it.
